Compress Pictures in Word or PowerPoint

After creating a document in Word or PowerPoint, you may have noticed that the file size had grown larger than you’d like due to the pictures. There is an easy way to compress the pictures in one quick process.

When you have a picture selected, the floating toolbar will appear. On that toolbar are a lot of useful tools including the one that will compress the pictures. It looks like the insert a picture from a file button but with four arrows, one on each corner, pointing inwards.

While one picture is selected, click this button and a dialogue box will appear. Your choices include compressing only the selected picture or all pictures in the document and changing the resolution to Web/Screen or Print.

Compressing the picture will not affect the relative size of the picture in the document itself but the file size of the picture. Internet Explorer and PowerPoint are made to use a lower resolution without sacrificing any quality. On the other hand, printing a lower resolution picture like web/screen will affect quality.
