Drag & Drop to another Program

The method of "dragging and dropping" a selection of text from one spot on the page to another can save you keystrokes and time. This can be used between two separate documents and even in two different programs.

If there is a string of text in a Word document that you would like to use in an Excel spreadsheet, select the text in Word, click on it and drag to the task bar at the bottom of your screen. Continue holding the mouse button down while moving the pointer over the tab for Excel.

After a moment, Excel will appear on your desktop. While still depressing the mouse button, drag the selection to the spot in the spreadsheet where you want it to appear.

This can also be done by sizing the windows of both programs so they can see on the monitor at the same time. Simply drag the text from one place to the other.

Of course, the copy and paste alternative can also be used by copying the selected text form one document to the clip board and pasting it into the target document. Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V are the quick key strokes for copy and paste. An alternative is right clicking on the selected text to use the menu that will appear for copy and positioning the pointer over the target location and right clicking to use the menu to paste.
