Don't be Clueless

The Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange known as "CLUE", as you probably know, is a way for the insurance companies to collect information on claims made by homeowners. What you may not know is that some companies report any inquiry about coverage as a claim.

This can cause real difficulty for a person being mislabeled as a problem homeowner. Agents have found that the marketability of some properties has been hampered by an unsatisfactory CLUE report.

Here are five tips:

  1. Avoid calling your insurance company to ask basic coverage questions.
  2. Don't call about a claim until you are ready to file it.
  3. If it is necessary to call, ask non-specific questions and don't mention any damage.
  4. Only major losses should be considered.
  5. Check your CLUE report at www.choicepoint.com
